How we work:

Streamlining Process

The Challenge

Over the last three years, one of our clients has undertaken efforts to improve and streamline its planning processes. On the whole, the company was successful, but there were a few operational glitches. Because the company wasn't using an integrated database, there were multiple entry points of information. Management had no way of knowing how staff and resources were allocated to projects in other departments. Worker and project data was often duplicated, causing inefficient processes, costly errors and jeopardized safety.

When major shareholders met to discuss the company's overall development, they realized the organization wasn't performing to potential. They approached PMC for help improving the reliability of information flow.

The Solution

PMC performed a capabilities assessment. We conducted a detailed analysis of the company's process, requirements and staffing to get the big picture of how projects were run and deliverables produced.

Based on this assessment, PMC created a custom plan to maximize resources and help the company's various departments and staff work in conjunction. We streamlined the information entry processes and created an integrated database, allowing for:

  • A single entry point for worker and project data
  • Centralized information that all management could easily access
  • An efficient process that eliminated errors and ensured worker safety

This streamlined process enabled the company to function smoothly as a unit, and avoid redundant work, costly backtracking and frustrated employees.

The Outcome

PMC's expertise enabled the company to achieve results that its own staff thought would require over twice the effort. By creating an integrated database, the company effectively doubled its manpower without having to hire additional workers.

After implementing our plan, the company was able to:

  • Reallocate staff to better align them with requirements and demands
  • Save millions of dollars in increased productivity (using Six Sigma measurement criteria), both through improved staff allocation and increased worker satisfaction
  • Create a safe, stimulating and rewarding work environment

Today, the company is more profitable and productive, and is recognized throughout its industry as a leading employer.
