One of our clients recently implemented a number of changes to its processes. The future was looking bright for this multi-national company, with many new billion-dollar projects coming down the line. In anticipation of this, management enrolled several of its staff in intensive training for new software, theories and systems. It was a necessary step, but it meant a significant transition period, with many key staff facing a steep learning curve.
Over the last three years, one of our clients has undertaken efforts to improve and streamline its planning processes. On the whole, the company was successful, but there were a few operational glitches. Because the company wasn't using an integrated database, there were multiple entry points of information. Management had no way of knowing how staff and resources were allocated to projects in other departments. Worker and project data was often duplicated, causing inefficient processes, costly errors and jeopardized safety.
